The Environment Agency is continuing its programme of improvement works at Lydney Harbour, with the next phase focusing on the refurbishment of the piers.
The current temporary green mesh fencing on the piers will be replaced with new pedestrian fencing, similar to that already installed elsewhere on the site, to improve access for visitors.
"We fully appreciate how important Lydney Harbour is to all those who use and visit it," said Martin Quine, Place Manager for Gloucestershire, from the Environment Agency. "Our main objective remains to establish a facility that not only meets the existing health and safety standards but also brings a sustainable and prosperous future."
The Environment Agency will be consulting with the Forest of Dean Council and Historic England on the design and obtain the required permissions before work commences. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2026.
Other planned works include the installation of additional pontoons to improve access for boat owners in the inner harbour, the repair of one of the bridges, and the introduction of new signage to keep the public informed.
The Environment Agency met with the Harbour's Community Leaders' Group on 27th January to provide an update on the progress of the improvement works.
