Motspur Park Station Becomes Step-Free

Motspur Park station has received a significant upgrade ahead of its 100th anniversary in July, becoming the latest step-free station on Network Rail’s Wessex route.

The £11.4 million investment enhances accessibility with a new covered footbridge, lifts, and improved security measures.

The new footbridge replaces the previous structure, providing step-free access via lifts or stairs to the central platform from both sides of the station. Additional enhancements include new lighting, security cameras, a waiting room, an accessible toilet, and a refurbished ticket office.

Network Rail partnered with South Western Railway (SWR) and the London Borough of Merton Council to deliver these improvements, with the Council contributing £690,000 to the project.

Opened on July 12, 1925, Motspur Park station sits just off the South West Main Line and serves as a junction for the Mole Valley Line towards Dorking and the Chessington branch line. Between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, the station saw 778,138 passengers.

Motspur Park is also the closest station to Fulham FC's training ground, home to the club's Academy and Women’s teams. The Fulham FC Foundation, the club’s charitable organisation, operates from the station, promoting youth involvement in sports and community activities.

The station upgrades were funded by the Department for Transport's (DfT) 'Access for All' scheme, aimed at providing obstacle-free routes from station entrances to platforms. This initiative includes installing lifts, ramps, and associated infrastructure to improve accessibility across the network.
