Plans Approved To Demolish Former Poundstretcher Unit For New Theatre

Test Valley Borough Council has approved plans to demolish the former Poundstretcher unit at the entrance of the Chantry Centre, making way for Andover's highly anticipated new theatre.
The unit, originally built for commercial use, will be removed to allow for the construction of a new venue. Aligned with the community-led town centre masterplan, the new theatre will be a significant upgrade from the existing Lights theatre, featuring a multi-level auditorium and modern spaces designed for a variety of community events and activities.
With planning permission now secured, the council will begin the process of procuring a contractor, with demolition expected to start in late spring. Throughout this period, the council will continue engaging with local businesses and residents to keep them informed on demolition timelines and progress.
While demolition is underway, the council will also be unveiling design proposals for the new theatre to the public. These plans will be subject to a second planning application before construction can commence. If approved, building work is set to begin in early 2026.
