Plans Submitted For New Residential Development In Swarthmoor

Story Homes has submitted a full planning application for a new residential development in the village of Swarthmoor, which will provide 155 high-quality homes.

The planning application, presented to Westmorland & Furness Council, includes the creation of 54 affordable homes aimed at eligible local residents. The scheme is expected to make a significant contribution to local housing delivery and generate over £1 million in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), alongside crucial infrastructure and highways improvements.

New green public open spaces, including an equipped play area, will be developed on-site, offering benefits for both new and existing residents of Swarthmoor.

The development will also bring substantial economic benefits, with employment opportunities generated during the construction phase through subcontractors and supply chains. After completion, the new homes are expected to drive increased demand for local services, providing a continued boost to the community.

The proposed scheme will offer a range of well-designed, two to six-bedroom homes, catering to first-time buyers, downsizers and families looking for their “forever home.” Once approved, the project is set to provide much-needed homes for residents at various stages of life.

A decision on the planning application is expected from Westmorland & Furness Council by summer 2025.

Adam McNally, Senior Land & Planning Manager for Story Homes, said: "We are delighted to have submitted plans for a new residential development in Swarthmoor. Our plans demonstrate our commitment to this site and how we have overcome key long standing planning constraints. The scheme has been carefully designed around flexibility and modern living, reflecting the aesthetics of the local area and featuring the distinctive and appealing street scenes that define Story Homes.

"This is a key site for Story Homes as we continue to focus on growth throughout the South Lakes area, building on the success of our recent schemes in Kendal and Ulverston. These projects have been well-received by customers, reflecting the strong demand for our high quality homes in the area. We look forward to receiving the Council's views on our proposals."
