A temporary lane closure on Bridgewater Viaduct (A56) between Whitworth Street West and Old Deansgate/Owen Street will take effect from today, January 27.
The southbound carriageway, heading out of Manchester, will be closed to allow work crews to safely carry out pavement widening around the viaduct. A signed diversion will direct traffic leaving the city centre via Whitworth Street West, Albion Street, and Medlock Street.
The northbound carriageway, which brings traffic into the city centre, will remain open for both motorists and cyclists.
The closure is expected to last two weeks but could be extended up to four weeks if weather conditions or other unforeseen issues cause delays. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.
Councillor Tracey Rawlins, Executive Member for Clean Air, Environment and Transport, said: "This necessary closure will be put in place to ensure that workers in the road are able to carry out their jobs safely, and I would like to thank people in advance for their patience."
