The City of Wolverhampton Council has announced that demolition work has commenced on the New Park Village estate, marking the start of a major £40 million redevelopment project to transform outdated council housing.
Contractor DSM Demolition has begun pulling down poor-quality bungalows on Valley Road, paving the way for a modern housing scheme. Stripping out the 1960s maisonettes at Ellerton Walk—comprising eight linked deck-access blocks with integral ground-floor garages—has also started ahead of full demolition.
Approved last month, the redevelopment will see 205 outdated residential properties replaced with 188 highly energy-efficient homes for rent, including two-, three-, and four-bedroom options. The estate will also benefit from enhanced public open spaces, including a children’s play area, a green gym, and additional seating, alongside increased car parking.
Phase one of the masterplan will deliver 98 new homes, with phase two adding 83 properties. A separate site on Longford Road will provide seven new bungalows.
Keon Homes, appointed through the council's new development framework, is set to begin construction of the new homes in summer 2025. The project is funded through the council’s Housing Revenue Account (HRA) capital budget and aims to create a sustainable and vibrant community.
