Camden Council has started work on two new hostels aimed at providing immediate temporary accommodation for those in urgent need, as part of its response to London’s housing crisis.
The hostels, located on Camden Road and Chester Road, are part of Camden’s Community Investment Programme. They will offer 89 self-contained units, each equipped with a kitchen and bathroom, providing safe, secure, and high-quality accommodation for individuals without permanent homes. This includes those affected by sudden evictions, life events, or domestic violence.
With 175,000 people in London currently living in temporary accommodation, the initiative is a critical step toward addressing the capital's housing challenges.
Funding for the project includes £1.5 million from the UK Government’s Brownfield Land Recycle Fund (BLRF) and £4.6 million from the Local Authority Housing Funding (LAHF).
Camden Council has appointed Morgan Sindall Construction to deliver the project, which is expected to be completed by late summer 2026. These hostels represent a vital investment in supporting vulnerable individuals and tackling the wider housing crisis.
