Galliford Try’s Building West Midlands and South West division has completed the £11 million refurbishment and extension of the Stonebow Unit for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust.
The project, located in Hereford, has significantly enhanced facilities for adult, older adult, and dementia patients. The refurbishment has created 39 single en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor, providing patients with easy access to gardens, while freeing up space on the first floor for staff welfare areas.
Designed by Design Buro, the refurbishment introduced the latest innovations in care, with adaptable, interconnected wards tailored to meet the specific needs of patients. This development aligns with the Modernising the Mental Health Act 2018, which aims to phase out dormitory-style accommodations in favour of more private and accessible spaces for patients.
The project has been recognised with a bronze award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards, which celebrate exceptional construction projects that demonstrate a commitment to improving industry standards and promoting positive change.
