Former Penn School To Become Luxury Hotel And Spa

Construction News Image
Planning permission and listed building consent have been granted for the redevelopment of the former Penn School in Buckinghamshire into 'Rayners Penn', a luxury boutique hotel and spa.

The multi-million-pound project will rejuvenate the historic estate in the village of Penn, creating approximately 150 jobs, including apprenticeship opportunities, while contributing to Buckinghamshire's growing tourism industry.

Central to the plans is the restoration and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Rayners House, which has fallen into disrepair since the school closed in 2015. The historic structure will be converted into a 33-bedroom hotel, with complementary extensions and new buildings to house a fine dining restaurant, bistro, cookery school, and wellness spa. The estate's iconic pleasure gardens will also be revitalised as part of the project.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the development, with the scheme designed to achieve deep green credentials, increase biodiversity, and future-proof the estate against climate change. The developers are also aspiring to achieve net zero carbon for the site.

The project represents a significant investment in Buckinghamshire's heritage and economy, offering a blend of luxury and sustainability while preserving the historic character of the estate.
