Norwich City Council has acquired the Anglia Square Shopping Centre, paving the way for a transformative redevelopment of the prominent city site.
This marks a key milestone in the Council's plan to rejuvenate the area, creating a vibrant hub with approximately 1,100 new homes, business opportunities, and jobs for local residents.
The acquisition, in partnership with government housing agency Homes England, follows years of stalled development attempts and uncertainty surrounding the future of Anglia Square. The Council credited Homes England's financial and strategic support as instrumental in securing the purchase.
Anglia Square, which once hosted the premiere of the Alan Partridge film Alpha Papa, became available earlier this year after Weston Homes abandoned its plans for redevelopment despite obtaining planning approval. The previous owners, Columbia Threadneedle Investments, sold the site to the Council with funding provided by Homes England.
Norwich City Council has submitted a further grant application to Homes England to support the next stages of the project, including demolition and essential infrastructure development. These steps are critical to realising the vision of a revitalised urban space that will benefit both residents and businesses.
The acquisition heralds a new chapter for Anglia Square, with the Council committed to transforming the site into a thriving, modern landmark in the heart of Norwich.
Knight Frank advised the seller, Columbia Threadneedle Investments.
