Stepnell Breaks Ground On Staveley Town Centre Regeneration Project

Construction News Image
Construction has begun on a regeneration project in Staveley town centre, near Chesterfield, as part of the Chesterfield Borough Council's Staveley 21 initiative.

Funded by the Staveley Town Deal, the project aims to revitalise the high street, enhance the market square, and construct a new landmark building to create a safer.

Stepnell has initiated works with the removal of a disused toilet block in the market square, marking the start of the regeneration. The project will deliver an expanded and reimagined marketplace designed to host events and support regular markets run by Staveley Town Council.

Tom Sewell, Regional Director at Stepnell, commented: "As we commence works on Staveley 21, early engagement and collaboration with Chesterfield Borough Council, partners, and the local community have been instrumental. Our team is dedicated to delivering a rejuvenated public space that will make Staveley town centre more attractive and vibrant for the future."

The revitalised marketplace will include tiered outdoor seating for theatre and performances, natural play equipment designed in collaboration with pupils from Staveley Junior School, and new paving, lighting, and street furniture. Planting and signage will enhance the town centre's atmosphere and guide visitors to local attractions, such as Chesterfield Canal and Staveley Hall.

The regeneration project will culminate in 2025 with the construction of a landmark building in the town centre. This new facility will house Derbyshire County Council’s Staveley Library on the ground floor, with business premises above, creating a central hub for the community and commerce.

The Staveley 21 project represents a significant investment in the town's future, aiming to boost local infrastructure, attract visitors, and support a vibrant, family-friendly environment.
