Green Light For New Leisure Centre In Trowbridge

Plans for a state-of-the-art leisure centre in Trowbridge have taken a major step forward, with the Planning Committee granting conditional approval for the project on 11 December.

With planning permission secured, the next phase involves presenting the final plans to the Cabinet early next year. Following Cabinet approval, construction partners will be appointed, with construction is expected to begin in 2025.

The leisure centre's design features high-quality, durable materials, including glazed facades and a striking entrance to create a welcoming atmosphere. The industrial-inspired aesthetic pays homage to Trowbridge’s rich heritage, while the interior focuses on accessibility, ensuring a space that accommodates all visitors.

Aligned with the council's target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, the project adopts a "fabric first" approach for energy efficiency. Solar panels will be installed on the roof to power the all-electric facility, complemented by green landscaping that integrates walking, cycling, and wheeling routes into the surrounding area.

The new leisure centre will offer a wide range of facilities, including:

• A six-lane, 25m swimming pool

• A 7m x 13m learner pool

• A 120-station gym

• Two studios

• An immersive spin studio

• A community meeting room

• A café

• Adventure play, including TAGactive for ages 12–16

• A Live Well suite for older adults to exercise

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Health said: "This is a significant moment for this project, and I'd like to thank all the officers, contractors, stakeholders and public for their hard work and diligence in getting us to this stage. I'd also like to thank everyone who took the time to comment and respond to the survey or attend one of the drop-in sessions, helping us to shape our plans."
