United Utilities has unveiled plans to partner with 30 construction firms based in or operating within the North West, marking a significant boost to the region's economy as part of the largest proposed investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in over a century.
The water company, pending regulatory approval, has selected 20 local civil engineering specialists and 10 mechanical and electrical contractors for its £0.5 billion minor works framework. These partners will contribute to various county-based projects, including:
• Delivering improvements under the Better Rivers programme
• Enhancing process treatment facilities
• Standardising network operations
• Installing storm overflow solutions
Following a rigorous tender process, 20 civil engineering firms were selected, including:
• Askam Civil Engineering
• Cheetham Hill Construction
• Cubby Construction
• Sapphire Utility Solutions
• Story Contracting, among others.
Additionally, 10 mechanical and electrical contractors were named, such as Bridges Electrical, Eric Wright Water, Z-Tech Control Systems, and Haywood & Jackson.
The partnerships aim to stimulate regional economic growth while addressing pressing infrastructure needs. United Utilities’ commitment highlights the value of local expertise and resources in delivering critical water and wastewater services.
These projects align with the company's overarching strategy to enhance environmental outcomes, ensure operational resilience, and provide a sustainable future for water infrastructure across the North West.
