GMI Construction Group has once again achieved Gold accredited membership via The 5% Club's Employer Audit Scheme.
This marks the second consecutive year the company has been recognised for its investment in 'earn and learn' programmes, which include apprenticeships and workplace training opportunities.
The award reflects GMI's commitment to addressing the skills gap within the construction sector, offering apprenticeships across disciplines such as quantity surveying, procurement, technical construction and design.
More than 5% of GMI's workforce is engaged in these schemes, exceeding the benchmark encouraged by The 5% Club, with currently more than 30 apprentices studying across various disciplines within the organisation.
More apprentices will be recruited to the business from the start of 2025.
GMI's Gold status is part of its broader focus on responsible business practices, underpinned by its Construction Cares initiative. This programme brings together the company’s community outreach, employability, and wellbeing projects, including its work with the Care Leaver Covenant to support young people transitioning into independent living.
Its apprenticeships complement GMI's other efforts to provide career pathways into construction, including mentoring, employability workshops, and DIY skills programmes for care leavers. Through its Construction Cares initiative, GMI collaborates with schools, local authorities, and community groups to deliver projects that create opportunities for individuals and improve lives in the regions where it operates.
By maintaining its Gold membership in The 5% Club, GMI continues to demonstrate its role as a leading employer in the construction sector, helping to develop a workforce fit for the future.
Gareth Jones, Group Managing Director at GMI Construction Group, said: "Being recognised for the second year running demonstrates the success of our approach to developing talent across the business. Through our apprenticeship schemes and wider Construction Cares programme, we are creating real opportunities for people to learn and grow within the industry.
"Our focus remains on creating a workforce equipped to tackle the challenges of today's construction sector while building a more inclusive and skilled future for the industry."
The 5% Club Employer Audit Scheme provides independent verification of member organisations’ commitment to workplace training. It evaluates the range and quality of schemes on offer, future plans, and their approach to inclusion and diversity.
