Telford & Wrekin Council's Station Quarter project is making strides with the development of 189 new homes, including 117 private rental units by Nuplace, the Council's housing company, and 72 affordable homes.
The scheme, valued at £45.7 million, aims to bring vibrant town-centre living to Telford for the first time.
Nuplace secured £4.725 million in grant funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) to support this mixed-tenure development, which features a variety of housing options, from one-bedroom apartments to three-bedroom townhouses. Affordable housing includes 36 rental and 36 shared ownership units, while the private rentals will be eco-friendly, contemporary apartments designed to reduce tenants’ energy bills.
Bowmer & Kirkland will deliver one- and two-bedroom apartments, while Lovell Partnerships will construct townhouses and low-rise apartments. The development includes a ground-floor amenity area with outdoor terraces for socialising and remote working, fostering a community atmosphere.
This residential project is part of the larger Station Quarter regeneration, which also includes The Quad, a digital skills hub hosting over 300 students annually in partnership with Harper Adams University and Telford College. Plans are also underway to transform the former Addenbrooke House into a new sixth form for Telford College and improve connectivity between Telford rail station and the town centre through extensive highway enhancements.
Station Quarter is a key element of the Council’s broader 'Investing in Telford and Wrekin' programme, which encompasses regeneration projects in Oakengates and Wellington. The initiative is designed to provide secure, affordable, and eco-friendly homes, while also supporting education, jobs, and cultural opportunities.
This effort aligns with the Council’s '20 pledges in 20 weeks' campaign, launched under new leader Cllr Lee Carter, reaffirming their commitment to building a better borough through impactful, resident-focused initiatives.
