Lovell has announced plans to transform a former school site in Longton into a new residential community.

The development will bring 193 homes to the area, marking a significant step in addressing local housing needs.

The 6.67-hectare site, which has been unused since the closure of Edensor High School over a decade ago, was recently acquired by Lovell from Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The proposal, currently awaiting planning approval, includes a mix of two- to four-bedroom homes, catering to a variety of residents and tenures.

Stuart Penn, regional managing director at Lovell, said: "This acquisition is a great achievement for Lovell and builds on our continued success in the land market, helping to secure sites and unlock more housing for the Midlands region.

"Our team has worked closely with the council to de-risk the development to bring much-needed high quality homes to the area. Our plans include family housing, maisonettes and bungalows to suit a range of buyer needs, and all properties will be built to Future Home Standard and under the new Building Regulations."

From 2025, the UK government aims to reduce 75-80% of carbon emissions from the residential building sector by ensuring housing is built conforming to the new Future Home Standard (FHS). Features like low-carbon heating systems, super-insulation, energy-efficient windows and doors and renewable energy options such as solar panels will be used across the Edensor site to reach FHS.
