West Sussex County Council, in partnership with recycling and waste contractor Biffa, has launched a new Waste Prevention Community Grant Fund.

The initiative aims to support community-based projects that reduce household waste across the county.

The fund is open to community groups, residents' associations, charities, community interest companies (CICs), and social enterprises, encouraging innovative approaches to waste prevention at a local level.

Designed to inspire a shift in mindset about unwanted items, the fund promotes repair, reuse, and recycling over disposal. Projects addressing key waste categories such as food, furniture, plastics, textiles and electrical items are eligible for consideration.

Applications for grants of up to £5,000 will open in January 2025. Interested groups are encouraged to begin planning now to prepare for the online application process.
