Rail engineers are working to repair flood-damaged railway infrastructure in Northampton following the River Nene's overflow on Monday, 25 November, during Storm Bert.

The severe flooding caused significant disruptions on the West Coast Main Line, submerging tracks, signals, and essential railway equipment for hours. Passengers traveling through Northampton station have been warned to expect ongoing delays and cancellations, with normal services unlikely to resume before Thursday, November 28.

Specialist teams from Network Rail are cleaning, repairing and testing the damaged equipment. The work focuses on restoring the signalling system before rail services can safely resume.

Given the scale of the repairs required, officials anticipate disruption may extend into the weekend. Passengers are advised to plan ahead and check for updates on service status.

Network Rail is working closely with train operating partners London Northwestern Railway and Avanti West Coast to minimise disruption for passengers. Trains are being diverted away from Northampton, and London Northwestern Railway will continue to provide road replacement transport between Rugby-Northampton and Northampton-Milton Keynes.
