The A10 at Foxton will be closed for seven days over the Christmas period to allow Network Rail to carry out vital repairs to a deteriorating level crossing and worn-out track.
The closure will begin at 10pm on Tuesday, December 24, and last until 6am on Wednesday, January 1. During this time, motorists traveling on the A10 between Royston and Cambridge will be diverted onto a signposted route via the A505 between Royston and Duxford and the A1301 between Duxford and Trumpington.
Network Rail engineers will use the closure to install a new, heavy-duty road deck at the level crossing, along with a replacement pedestrian crossing deck. Both vehicle and pedestrian crossings will be closed during the works. To support pedestrians, a fully accessible minibus will operate to transport people across the railway.
Additionally, the project will include the replacement of 615 meters of track, four sets of points, and the rails running through the level crossing. These upgrades aim to address wear caused by the high volume of road and rail traffic in the area, which has led to speed restrictions on trains for safety reasons.
