Essential engineering works are scheduled on the Sunshine Coast railway line, affecting services between Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea, and Walton-on-the-Naze over two weekends in November.

The maintenance, aimed at improving the reliability and safety of the line, includes rail replacements, bridge refurbishments, and other key upgrades.

The works will feature rail replacement near the Wivenhoe Park level crossing, refurbishment of Alresford bridge, and crucial track maintenance activities such as tamping and defect removal to extend track life. Additionally, Greater Anglia’s Clacton depot will receive a new wheel lathe installation, expected to reduce train maintenance time and enhance overall service efficiency.

The scheduled engineering will impact passenger services on these dates:

• Saturday, 16 November and Sunday, 17 November

• Saturday, 23 November and Sunday, 24 November

• Sunday, 1 December (until 09:10)

To accommodate passengers during this period, rail replacement bus services will operate:

• On 16, 17, 23, and 24 November, buses will replace trains between Clacton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, and Colchester Town.

• On Sunday, 1 December, buses will replace trains between Clacton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, and Colchester until 09:10.
