Construction has officially commenced on the new Assheton Court development in Portchester, marking a milestone for affordable housing in the region.

In a groundbreaking ceremony attended by the Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Pal Hayre, alongside local councillors and members of the Wayfarer Consortium, the event celebrated the start of the significant project.

Fareham Borough Council, a key member of the Wayfarer Consortium secured £7.56 million in funding from Homes England to develop 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments. These units, intended for residents over 55, will be available at Social Rent, aiming to provide high-quality, affordable housing options for the community. The former Assheton Court building has already been demolished to make way for the new construction, which is being led by Feltham Construction Ltd.

Set for completion in the summer of 2026, Assheton Court represents a vital addition to the council's affordable housing efforts, supported by the Wayfarer Consortium and the Affordable Homes Programme.
