A turf-cutting ceremony marked the official start of Cyngor Gwynedd's Tŷ Gwynedd development in Llanberis, where construction has begun on affordable homes aimed at addressing the housing needs of local residents.

This project, part of the council’s ambitious plan to increase affordable housing, will provide the first new homes built by Cyngor Gwynedd in over 30 years.

In collaboration with OBR Construction and Saer Architects, along with enthusiastic pupils from Ysgol Dolbadarn, Cyngor Gwynedd representatives were on-site to celebrate this milestone. Over the coming months, the council will build three homes in Llanberis: two semi-detached houses with two bedrooms and a three-bedroom detached home. These new homes are designed to support residents who face challenges in purchasing or renting but may not be eligible for social housing.

The Llanberis homes are designed with adaptability, affordability, and sustainability in mind. Energy efficiency is a core focus, with each home featuring innovative green technologies to keep heating costs low and reduce environmental impact. In a nod to local heritage, Welsh slate will be used for the roofing.

The Tŷ Gwynedd development in Llanberis is part of a larger initiative to build 90 homes across Gwynedd and falls within the council's broader Housing Action Plan. The council aims to address the housing shortage by delivering more than 1,000 affordable homes by 2027, marking a significant step toward sustainable housing solutions for the Gwynedd community.
