Approval Secured For 130-Bed Student Development In Coventry

Birmingham-based developer Sama Investment Group has received approval for its plans to build a 130-bed student accommodation scheme at the edge of Coventry city centre.

The project, named Charter House, will transform an industrial site on Charterhouse Road into a modern student housing complex.

The development will feature four- and six-storey buildings and include a range of student-focused amenities, such as study areas, lounges, a gym, and outdoor courtyards with garden spaces overlooking the Sherbourne River. Designed with sustainability in mind, the project incorporates renewable energy technologies and is targeting an "Excellent" rating from BREEAM, the global sustainability certification.

Located just a five-minute walk from Coventry University, Charter House is seen as a key project in addressing the city's growing demand for high-quality student accommodation. The site is part of a broader student-led regeneration effort in the area.

Bilal Ahmed, Executive Chairman & Founder at Sama Investments, said: "We're delighted to be granted planning approval for Charter House. As a brownfield site close to Coventry University, this is a fantastic opportunity to deliver a high-quality student accommodation scheme which will add real value to the city, supporting our growing educational institutions and meeting the increasing demand for student beds.

"Importantly, it will also help unlock existing family housing elsewhere in the city rather than force students to rely on HMOs and the private rented sector.

"Part of a wider transition within the area, these proposals are highly sustainable and seek to make best use of the site for the benefit of the whole community – driving local growth and creating jobs. We look forward to engaging with interested groups who can take this exciting opportunity forward at the site."
