Construction Begins On £300m A47 Upgrade In Norfolk

Construction News Image
Galliford Try's Infrastructure division has officially commenced construction on the long-delayed A47 improvement project in Norfolk, in partnership with National Highways and local stakeholders.

The £300 million project, which had faced significant delays due to legal challenges, is now moving forward, with the first section from North Tuddenham to Easton under construction.

The upgrade will transform the A47 between North Tuddenham and Easton into a dual carriageway, completing a continuous dual carriageway route between Norwich and Dereham. This development is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and boost economic growth in the region.

To mark the occasion, Galliford Try hosted an event attended by local officials, including Breckland Council Mayor Keith Gilbert, Norfolk County Councillor Graham Plant, and Matt Stafford, Regional Delivery Director for National Highways. The project's full construction works are now officially underway, signalling a major step forward for infrastructure improvements in Norfolk.

Julie Crawford, Operations Director for Galliford Try, commented: "We are delighted to be able to begin the works in earnest on this much-needed scheme, that will bring improvements to the lives of people in the local area. National Highways is a key partner for our business and we look forward to working with them on this and the further phases of the A47 project."
