Recycled Steel Tubular Piles Drive Success In Skipton Project

Construction News Image

Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL) has announced the successful completion of a piling project in Skipton for Stonebridge Homes. This project supports the construction of 19 new homes, exemplifying RBL's commitment to environmentally responsible construction practices due to its use of recycled steel tubular piles.

The Skipton site posed significant challenges due to its complex ground conditions, characterised by glacial drift deposits overlaying Limestone bedrock. The presence of a shallow and sloping rock head, along with cobble-sized obstructions, necessitated the use of Driven Steel Tubular Piles. RBL installed 270 No. 178mm diameter thick-wall steel tubular piles, driven to an average depth of approximately 12.0 meters, ensuring secure penetration into the rock and providing a stable foundation for the 2 and 3-storey semi-detached and detached homes.

Driven Steel Tubular Piles were selected not only for their exceptional strength and adaptability but also for their sustainability benefits. These piles are sourced from the oil and gas industry, repurposing high-quality materials that might otherwise go to waste. By using recycled steel, RBL significantly reduces the environmental impact associated with the production of new materials and supports a circular economy. This approach aligns with RBL's dedication to sustainable construction practices, delivering robust foundations with a reduced carbon footprint.

This project marks the first collaboration between RBL and Stonebridge Homes. Through a competitive bidding process, RBL secured the contract due to its attention to detail and proactive approach in addressing technical issues during the tender process.

Commenting on the project's success, Gerard Loose, Design & Estimating Manager at RBL, said: "We are thrilled to have completed our first project with Stonebridge Homes in Skipton. The complex ground conditions posed a challenge, but our team's expertise and commitment to quality allowed us to deliver a robust foundation solution on time. This project is a testament to our ability to tackle challenging sites and work closely with our clients to achieve the best outcomes. We look forward to continuing with Stonebridge Homes on future projects and building working relationships."

Following the successful completion of the Skipton project, RBL is set to continue its collaboration with Stonebridge Homes, with a new project planned in Guisborough.
