Marlborough Highways Maintenance Contract Extended

Construction News Image
Marlborough Highways has announced that its Highways Maintenance Contract with Haringey Council has been extended.

The company's existing five-year Contract was due to expire in June 2025 and will now run until June 2027. The Council decision is a testament to the work Marlborough delivers in the north London borough, with the full life of the Contract now valued at up to £98m.

Marlborough provides a variety of services across the London Borough of Haringey as part of its Highways Maintenance Contract, being responsible for the upkeep and repair of the road infrastructure that is owned and operated by the Council. As well as general carriageway, footway and cycleway operations, Marlborough delivers junction improvements, installs traffic calming measures, and conducts drainage and urban greening works. The company also manages public realm improvements programmes, with innovative schemes on Ashley Road (pictured), Broad Lane Square and Tottenham Green just some of the projects completed in the Contract period to date.

In parallel with its Highways Maintenance Contract, Marlborough operates a separate Street Lighting Term Contract with Haringey Council, providing lighting and other electrical solutions. These often-complex works include refreshing and repairing columns and lanterns, replacing wall lights, and updating power cables. This dual agreement provides operational synergy, enabling both Marlborough and the local authority to deliver a comprehensive and integrated service.

Marlborough is committed to delivering a significant programme of social value initiatives including local employment, school and college engagement as well as supporting community organisations in the London Borough of Haringey. The use of local supply chain partners is also important, with Marlborough using locally sourced materials and services wherever possible.

The Highways Maintenance Contract extension follows a review process by Haringey Council, in which Marlborough’s operational and social value delivery was evaluated against a set of key performance indicators. The company was praised for its timely completion of works, for the quality of services provided, for high standards in health and safety procedure, and for its commitment to sustainable and community initiatives. The ability of Marlborough to respond to changing workloads and to develop sound working relationships with Council officers was also taken into consideration, confirming the organisation’s standing as a trusted and reliable partner.
