Stroud Station's historic footbridge is set to undergo significant renovations as Network Rail prepares to start work in the Gloucestershire town.
The refurbishment of the Grade II listed bridge, originally constructed in 1914, will commence on Tuesday, 27 August, with completion expected by spring of next year.
During the renovation, portions of the car park on both sides of the station will be temporarily closed to allow Network Rail's contractor, SISK Rail, to work safely. Approximately 34 out of the 150 parking spaces at the station will be unavailable. However, an alternative car park, managed by Stroud District Council, is just a short walk away on Cheapside.
As part of the project, the footbridge span will be dismantled and relocated to the car park for restoration. The bridge will undergo grit blasting, with repairs made to its timber and steelwork before it is repainted. Additionally, the staircase treads, timbers, and the station building canopies will also be refurbished.
To ensure continued access between the two platforms, a temporary bridge will be installed at the south-east end of the station.
