Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering has scooped an £8 million contract to deliver the latest phase of public realm improvements in the historic Market Town of Waltham Cross.
Waltham Cross, located on the southern edge of Hertfordshire in the Borough of Broxbourne, near junction 25 of the M25, is known for its historical Eleanor Cross monument and its vibrant street market held in the High Street on Wednesdays and Fridays. The current pedestrian zone was originally implemented over 30 years ago, with the southern section recently refreshed by our team in 2019—a project that has been highly praised for its quality and impact.
The newly awarded scheme, secured through the Procure Partnerships framework, will focus on three distinct areas:
• High Street Paving Upgrade: We will upgrade the paving on the High Street, which will allow for the reintroduction of a single lane of carriageway, enhancing both accessibility and functionality of this key area.
• Stanhope Way/Monarchs Way Junction Remodelling: This will involve the remodelling of the junction, including the installation of two new pedestrian crossing points and the infilling of the existing subway. These improvements will enhance pedestrian safety and traffic flow and reduce anti-social behaviour.
• Eleanor Cross Road Enhancements: We will be carrying out new paving and surfacing works on Eleanor Cross Road, further contributing to the overall aesthetic and practical upgrade of the town.
As a specialist in public realm and infrastructure projects, Danaher & Walsh is committed to delivering this project to the highest standards. Our expertise in self-delivering these works ensures that the project will benefit from the attention to detail and quality control for which we are known. We are an award-winning company, and this project is another opportunity to demonstrate our capability and dedication to improving the built environment.
Sean McCallion, Operations Director at Danaher & Walsh announced the award: "Danaher and Walsh have just received our Notice to Proceed into Project delivery and are mobilising for the start on site date of 2/09/24. We are a family-owned firm and will look to live by our family values of looking after our people and those who we work with, demonstrate personal integrity throughout and ensure a quality product is delivered. We will go the extra mile to ensure we serve the local community in the Waltham Cross town centre throughout the Construction phase, keeping all stakeholders, business owners and road users informed as we progress."
The project is due to commence in September 2024 and is expected to take a year to complete.
