The Cementation Skanska team at 1 Liverpool Street have won UK Project with a Geotechnical value of over £3 million category at this year's Ground Engineering Awards.

Balint Madar, Project Director, said: "We worked closely with our customer, the main contractor John F Hunt and third-party asset holders to deliver a large variety of technical solutions that were implemented on a very constrained site in the heart of London.

"This along with the decision to reuse piles which presented a significant saving in programme and embodied carbon, were key factors in the success of the project which were recognised by the judges."

1 Liverpool Street is a new mixed-use office and retail development located opposite Liverpool Street station. The site is adjacent to the Hammersmith and City London Underground line (HCL) with the piled wall line located just 142 cm away from the operational underground line. This wall line supports a semi-circular brick arch that was originally constructed in 1865. The pilling took place above multiple underground assets.
