Building Work Begins On New Changing Rooms At Britannia Park

Construction News Image
Sandwell Council has started building work on new changing rooms at Britannia Park in Rowley Regis.

Four new Football Association approved changing rooms will enable maximum usage of the onsite park's sport pitches. The council also aims to enter a partnership with a not-for-profit voluntary sector organisation to promote the use of the grass pitches to help grow junior and women’s football.

The work will be completed by early 2025. The council will be liaising with park users and local residents to help manage any potential disruption.

This is the latest phase of Britannia Park improvements. New allotment beds at the park are almost finished and work is already under way on the tennis courts together with the play area improvements and drainage works on the sports pitches.

By improving facilities in Britannia Park, families and children will have more opportunities to participate in sporting activities including tennis, basketball, netball, cricket and football as well as to take part in events and to use the new play area and skate park.

Sandwell Council Leader Councillor Kerrie Carmichael said: "The improvements we have planned for the park will result in a high-quality place for residents to spend leisure time. In addition, having more opportunities for residents to become more active will help them to live healthier lives."

Sandwell Council successfully secured £2.46million from the Government’s Towns Fund programme for Rowley Regis for wide-ranging improvements at Britannia Park and is also contributing £28,000 of council funding. The Lawn Tennis Association is part funding the improvements to the tennis courts.
