In the bustling town of Wye, located in the heart of Kent, Redcopters has embarked on an exciting project.
Our mission? To capture a moment in time through a large-scale mapping and aerial survey recording, effectively documenting the town’s transformation. As Wye transitions from the remnants of past enterprises, such as old horticulture labs and glasshouses, to a landscape filled with new builds and refurbishments, including the town college, Redcopters was called upon to provide valuable insights.
The Scope of Our Assignment
Our assignment was twofold. First, we were tasked with surveying approximately a dozen specific sites within Wye. These surveys would serve as vital resources for development and urban planning. Secondly, we aimed to create a comprehensive historical record-in-time by capturing the entire urban area of the town through scanning. Fortunately, Wye's well-defined boundaries, spanning roughly 1.5 kilometres by 800 meters, made it an ideal canvas for this ambitious undertaking.
Our Aerial Survey Methodology
To execute this project seamlessly, we employed the advanced capabilities of our Mavic 3 drone, operating in waypoint mode. Our strategy involved flying the drone in parallel stripes, each approximately 80 meters wide. Prior to take-off, meticulous planning was conducted in our office to ensure that we complied with range and visibility requirements. The entire mission spanned over two days, encompassing both aerial photography and post-processing tasks, including indexing.
The Deliverable Aerial Survey
As a result of our efforts, the Wye town council now possesses a comprehensive record of their town. This invaluable resource comprises over 1,000 photographs, presenting a combination of survey images, promotional material, and ’tiling style’ visuals. These images will not only aid in future development and urban planning but also serve as a historical record, offering a unique perspective on the ever-evolving town of Wye.
At Redcopters, we take immense pride in contributing to the preservation and planning of towns like Wye, capturing their evolution and progress. Our aerial survey of Wye, Kent, stands as a testament to the power of modern technology in documenting our ever-changing world. We look forward to more exciting projects that allow us to showcase the rich history and promising future of towns like Wye.
