Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has appointed Rula Developments as preferred developer for its 54-acre site at Durham Lane Industrial Park.
The land, adjacent to Eaglescliffe Train Station and one mile from the A66, was purchased by the Council in 2021 with money from the Tees Valley Combined Authority’s Indigenous Growth Fund (IGF). Following a competitive tender process, Rula Developments was selected to deliver an industrial and logistics led development for the strategically important site.
Initially Rula will work in partnership with the Council on its commitment to spend £3million IGF grant money on infrastructure improvements to unlock the land for development. Thereafter Rula will develop plots in line with occupier demand.
Chris Renahan, Assistant Director of Inclusive Growth and Development at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "This is a really exciting step for this vital employment site and Rula has demonstrated an impressive track record with a wealth of experience and contacts, providing a massive opportunity to attract investment.
"Durham Lane is already home to huge firms and employers like Tata Consumer Products Limited and Nifco. Now we’re in a really strong position to attract even more businesses when you consider the excellent transport links nearby, in particular the redevelopment of Eaglescliffe Train Staton.
"Rula is our preferred developer because its vision matches our high ambitions for the site and its credentials demonstrate an ability to deliver similar sites across the country, including Cheshire, Doncaster and Oldham. Plus, this will be its flagship scheme in the North East, with no competing sites of its own in the region."
