London Euston station is improving its on-site recycling activity and reducing waste collection with the new waste sorting facility near Platform 1.

Behind the scenes, dedicated staff members will separate cardboards, mixed paper, plastic and coffee cups from the general waste, pack and send them off for recycling.

The station will have new dedicated sorting tables and a baler machine for sorting and packing materials for commercial recycling, which will boost recycling rate at the station to 80 per cent and create new jobs.

With a specialised waste sorting system in place, this will generate additional revenue from the recycling done and reduce demand and cost for waste collection.

Gareth Parry, Network Rail’s Station Manager for London Euston, said: "We are working hard behind the scenes to keep Euston’s carbon footprint as low as possible and be a more sustainable station while London Euston is going through a change.

"We are pleased to be improving the way Euston operates without changing the way passengers use the station. Thousands of passengers who use Euston every day will not feel the change but they can be reassured that waste is responsibly separated and recycled with this new waste sorting facility at the station."
