Wiltshire Council is refurbishing and upgrading the existing traffic signals and pedestrian crossings on the A350 Beanacre Road, Melksham, from Monday 12 February to Friday 1 March.

The scheme will see the refurbishment of the existing traffic signals and pedestrian crossing infrastructure at the junction outside Aldi and McDonald's, including increasing the size of one of the refuge islands to make it safer for pedestrians and upgrading of the crossing equipment, the use of detectors with sensors to monitor pedestrians, assisting them when crossing the road by providing additional time, and nearside push buttons.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience or delays caused by these works, but this is an essential refurbishment to these traffic signals and pedestrian crossing that will make it safer for all road users. The current layout has been in place for a number of years and is in need of upgrading, and maintaining equipment of this age is becoming increasingly difficult, so we are installing new equipment.

"As part of our business plan, we are committed to making improving safety and investing in Wiltshire's roads, and this refurbishment project helps to achieve these aims."
