Construction firm BAM is to commence refurbishment work on a 135-year-old Victoria Building at Blackburn College.
The firm will develop a dynamic hub for adult learning, advanced skills, and community activities in the heart of Blackburn town centre.
The Department for Education has contributed £25 million from its Further Education Capital Transfer Fund to repair, restore, and reinvigorate the building.
The project will see the Grade II listed heritage building, which was constructed in 1888, brought back to life as a central feature of Blackburn's Town Centre Master Plan.
The project includes constructing additional lecture theatres and converting offices back into their original uses as spacious classrooms and meeting areas.
John Phillips, Regional Director at BAM, said: "BAM has a strong track record in restoring beautiful historic buildings and we’re known for the quality of our projects. We will work sensitively and sustainably, and we'll support the local economy and community in Blackburn throughout the project."
