Hinkley Point C has released a new film showing progress at the new nuclear power station in Somerset before the next feat.
The video demonstrates how each day 10,000 workers are approaching the next major engineering milestone. Presently, they are preparing to lift the 245 tonne steel dome on top of the first reactor building using Big Carl, the world's largest land based crane.
Viewers are also taken on a tour of the 50m tall turbine hall, which will be home to the world’s largest Arabelle turbine. As well as receiving a preview of what the control rooms will look like.
Following the path the cooling water takes, Simon Parsons, Hinkley Point C 's Nuclear Island Area Director brings viewers under the seabed to see some of the most complex work within the project.
This project has contracts with 3,700 British companies as more than £5 billion has been spent with companies across the South West. When completed the nuclear power station will provide 6 million homes with reliable, low-carbon energy, playing a role in helping Britain achieve net zero and stronger energy security.
The next video will highlight the completed mechanical and electrical work to date, whilst showing the equipment that has been tested and installed.
