Church Commissioners for England has secured planning permission for the first phase of new 650-home community in North Yorkshire.
Under the plans approved by North Yorkshire Council, 44 (30 percent) of the new homes will be affordable, in line with local planning policy which supports the Church of England's vision for more affordable homes and stronger communities, as outlined in the Archbishops' Commission's Coming Home report.
The homes are the first phase of the delivery of a new community of 650 homes which will include a primary school and local community centre. The need for this new development was identified in the Adopted Hambleton Local Plan.
The development is located just 1.5km north-east of Northallerton town centre, and 2km from Northallerton rail station, with direct trains to York, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester and London.
"This planning consent will be an important first phase in the delivery of a new 650-home community that will include vital social infrastructure such as a new primary school and community centre, in addition to much needed new housing," said Matthew Naylor, Principal Strategic Land Manager at the Church Commissioners for England. "Delivering more homes of all types and tenures is critical to addressing England's housing crisis and we are particularly pleased to be offering a range of affordable housing tenures as part of this first phase, which is in line with local planning policy and the Church Commissioners' aspirations to create sustainable, safe, stable, sociable and satisfying places to live."
This planning approval follows another recent planning permission secured by the Church Commissioners for over 1,000 new homes in Bracebridge Heath, Lincolnshire.
