Kirklees Council has announced major resurfacing works on the A62 Manchester Road.
The project will commence from 31 July and will last for a period of four weeks. The scheme will include work on the stretch of Manchester Road between Neilds Road and Linfit Fold in Slaithwaite.
Work will run from 9.30am to 6pm with no weekend work scheduled. The project aims to create a quieter and smoother journey for drivers as well as reducing the need for future pothole repairs.
The council aims to introduce a convoy system to guide traffic through the narrow carriageway. This is a result of there being no suitable diversion routes available. The convoy will travel at a maximum of ten miles per hour.
Side roads along this route will also be affected with phased road closures and temporary diversions in place. These include Neilds Road, Varley Road, Ned Lane, Back O’Dam, Commercial Street, Hollins Road, and Kitchen Fold.
Commenting on the plans, Councillor Masood Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “I'm pleased to see schemes funded by the highway's capital programme, which was approved at cabinet earlier this year, programmed to go ahead this month.
"It's important these resurfacing works take place, particularly ahead of the winter season, as this will help prevent new potholes from forming, and minimise other wear and tear on the roads, which can be more prevalent during the colder months of the year.
"I thank everyone in advance who may be affected by the resurfacing, for their patience and understanding whilst these important works are carried out."
