Birmingham City Council has recommended St Joseph Homes to be the developer for the £2.2 billion Ladywood Estate development.
If approved by the cabinet, St Joseph Homes will sign a development agreement that includes the creation 7,000 sustainable homes on the 60 hectare site. St Joseph Homes Ltd makes up part of Berkeley Group Plc.
The scheme will take 20 years to complete and also includes, new schools, over 14 hectares of urban green open space with two new public parks & public realm, improved public transport, business incubator space and community facilities.
The bidding process for the site required applicants to create an indicative masterplan for the redevelopment.
Commenting on the project, Cllr John Cotton, leader of Birmingham City Council, said: "The delivery of Ladywood Estate Regeneration Scheme is the city's most significant housing regeneration and redevelopment opportunity and key to the sustainable growth and development of the city.
"The regeneration of Ladywood Estate will address both social and environmental issues and deliver significant benefits for the local community and wider Birmingham economy."
