Somerset Council Announces Programme Of Roadworks

Somerset Council has announced a series of planned roadworks to be carried out across the summer.

Somerset Council’s highways teams will resurface sections of both the A378 North Street in Langport and the A372 Somerton road in Huish Episcopi, starting in July.

Preparatory work will begin on North Street on 17 July and will last for five days. The road will then be closed between 6.30pm and 11.30pm from Monday 24 July for six evenings while the resurfacing work is carried out.

Meanwhile preparatory work for Somerton Road will run from Monday 24 July for six days, with traffic signals in place. It will then be closed completely between 6:30 pm and 11:30pm, from Tuesday 1 August to Friday 11 August.

In addition to the works being carried out by the council, Wales and West Utilities will be conducting repairs on the A372 from Monday 10 July to Friday 25 August.

Commenting on the works, Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital said: "Resurfacing roads that need it is a critical part of our summer programme; residents will be aware both roads are in need of urgent repair. "While there is some short-term disruption, these works in both Langport and Huish Episcopi will make journeys in the area safer for years to come. The team will do everything they can to carry out the work safely and successfully during the evenings to minimise disruption.

"We are working in partnership with Wales and West Utilities to ensure that all key works are carried out at the same time."
