Cardiff City Council have approved plans for what will be Wales' largest building.

The 35 storey tower block will overtake The Tower building in Swansea, as the largest in the country, with a height of 113 metres.

The plans will see it occupy space in central square close to the BBC Wales and HRMC buildings. The plans include 484 cycle parking spaces as well as space for a ground floor restaurant and cafe.

Concerns about the designs were raised by Councillor Garry Hunt who said: "It is basically a block and I just wondered if more thought could be given to the design."

The plans were defended by planning officers. Commenting on the design the council's head of planning, Simon Gilbert, said: "It is quite graceful in terms of its slender nature on that gable end."

Councillor Emma Reid-Jones also raised concerns about how appealing the area may be for future residents. Despite these concerns, the councillors voted unanimously to approve plans for the building.
