Kier has been appointed as one of the delivery partners for the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) Portfolio.
The MoD has adopted an alliancing approach to the delivery of a significant number of projects within its £5.1bn investment portfolio which will enable the design and build of a wide range of buildings and infrastructure.
Kier has been appointed to deliver one major project and one regional package:
• Major project – RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire
• Regional package – Army South of England
Within DEO, this Strategic Alliance Programme will drive collaboration across core themes including social and environmental sustainability and digitisation. The alliancing approach will embrace and enable Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA).
The programme will also support supply chain partners of Kier with early supplier involvement and visibility of work, which in turn ensures the building of long-term relationships.
Stuart Togwell, Group managing director, Kier Construction said: "Kier's appointment to the Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio is a proud moment and builds on the long-standing and successful partnership between Kier and the MoD.
"The defence sector has a strong culture of innovation, and we are delighted to be able to contribute to this through the application of the extensive construction alliancing experience we have developed in other sectors. By embracing alliancing to deliver DEOP, we and our partners will have the opportunity to develop and address solutions for this programme, and the wider construction industry."
