Beam-Signing Marks Major Milestone At Crewe Fire Station

ISG has hosted a beam-signing ceremony to mark a major milestone in the rebuild of Crewe fire station which took place in March.

Former Chair of the Fire Authority, Cllr Bob Rudd, Chief Fire Officer, Alex Waller and Station Manager, Jo Watson from Cheshire Fire & Rescue service joined the team on site for a beam signing event to celebrate the completion of the steel frame for the new fire station. The project was procured through the influential Procure Partnerships North West framework.

Following the completion of a temporary fire station facility in October 2022, the fire and rescue service relocated from its home of 50 years allowing the existing station to be demolished. Following this, ISG was able to start working on the preparations for the new building's foundations. In March, they were able to celebrate the first major milestone, and the steel frame now provides insight as to what the building will look like in the future.

The station is designed to achieve Zero Carbon for regulated energy, meeting Cheshire Fire Authority's aspiration of being carbon neutral by 2045 and is targeting a BREEAM Excellent environmental assessment rating. Once complete the new three-bay station will house two whole time appliances and a special appliance. The station will also deliver a better working environment for Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service staff and enhanced facilities for community engagement, suited to the practical needs of a modern fire service.

Jo Watson, Crewe Station Manager, said: "I'm excited to see the progress that's being made on our new fire station. Although the old building has gone, we have a temporary fire station in its place, and I can assure residents that there will be no reduction in the service they're used to receiving. It's really important for us to be able to give our crews and fire staff a working environment that they deserve. Once built, I think it's something the town will be really proud of."
