Mace has been selected for three major lots on Heathrow’s H7 Framework.
The firm will act as the delivery partner on three major infrastructure improvement projects under the framework - Heathrow’s Security Programme - covering all four terminals, and the Asset Replacement Programme in terminals 3, 4 and 5 - which includes the provision of a ‘virtual control tower’.
As the aviation industry rebounds from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Heathrow is investing in significant infrastructure upgrades to ensure passengers continue to receive a world-class experience at the airport.
Sustainability is at the heart of the framework and Mace has committed to reducing embodied carbon at the airport by 40% by 2026 against the industry standard baseline. The company will deliver five circular economy innovations a year and committing to 100% ‘clean technology’ (including zero diesel on-site) by the second quarter of 2023.
Offsite manufacturing and the use of digital project tools and data sharing will play a major role in the delivery of these projects, driving greater efficiency. This will build on the use of innovative technology Mace has already introduced at Heathrow, such as ‘Dave’ the robotic dog and 'Construction to Production' used on the Cargo Tunnel refurbishment project.
Nigel Cole, Managing Director for Aviation, Mace Construct, said: "We have partnered with Heathrow for over 30 years and have delivered over 400 projects at the airport.
"We are honoured to have been appointed to the H7 Framework, meaning we will continue to support Heathrow over the next half-decade as they rebuild from the pandemic, transition to a carbon neutral aviation hub, and give passengers a world-leading airport service."
