Work on a £13 million scheme to repair 15 bridge piers in Manchester has been completed.
The Palatine Road bridge scheme began in 2019 and has been completed almost a year ahead of schedule.
Palatine Road bridge carries M60 traffic over the River Mersey and Palatine Road and the project to make improvements and repairs to the bridge began in November 2019.
National Highways expected to complete the scheme in October 2023, but hosted a completion ceremony on Friday 25 November.
The event took place with a tree-planting undertaken by National Highways' Head of Planning and Development in the North West, Bruce Parker.
The second part of the completion ceremony took place at Withington Golf Club where the local community were thanked for their engagement throughout the scheme.
Mr Parker said: "The repairs to the Palatine Road bridge were essential in making sure that the structure remained safe and our customers who use the M60 are able to get to their destinations safely and in good time.
"Finishing the scheme almost a year early shows our commitment to finding the best approaches to carry out our projects and, in doing so, managed to keep the cost of the repairs down.
"I'd like to thank the local community and our supply chain who we have worked alongside closely throughout the scheme and the completion ceremony was the perfect way to mark such a successful scheme."
The M60 is one of the busiest motorways in the North West and the Palatine Road bridge piers needed extensive repairs to ensure motorists could continue to complete their journeys safely and reliably.
Due to the nature of the repairs, the majority of the scheme was completed away from the network and beneath the bridge with minimal to no traffic management involved.
