Liverpool City Council has approved section 106 funding to be invested on a new link bridge at Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters, connecting Princes Dock with the new Isle of Man Ferry Terminal, which is currently under construction at Central Dock.
The bridge, which will be part funded by section 106 money, will play a critical role in linking the existing pedestrian and cycleways between Princes Dock and Central Dock and will eventually open up access along the entire Liverpool waterfront from Aigburth to Bramley-Moore Dock.
The historic lock gates, which sit on either side of the dock, will be retained to preserve the heritage of the dock and new granite setts will be embedded in the ground, engraved with each dock name, to form a welcome mat at both ends of the new link bridge. The bridge will be in place ready for the opening of the new Isle of Man Ferry Terminal expected in June 2023.
