Galliford Try Scoops Green World Award

Construction News Image
Galliford Try’s Highways business has scooped a Green World Award for its work on an environmentally-friendly pathway in Stoke on Trent.

The Lordship Lane scheme regenerated an old bridleway that had fallen into disrepair, on behalf of Stoke City Council, and was given a Silver award for its approach to conservation and environmentally-friendly materials.

The scheme protected the natural habitat of the colonies of Great Crested Newts and Wood Pigeons, while using an innovative recycled rubber surfacing solution, rather than a traditional tarmac-based pathway.

The Green World Awards are an extension of the Green Apple Awards and recognise and reward the endeavours of public and private sector organisations that are making a beneficial impact on the environment.

David Lowery, Managing Director of Galliford Try Highways, commented: "All across our business we have great examples of our people using innovative solutions to make a significant difference to the impact our activities have on the environment around us, and this project is fantastic example of that. Congratulations to the team behind the Lordship Lane scheme for their efforts in achieving this award."
