Bouygues UK has been appointed to design and build the Pentre Awel development in Carmarthenshire.
Pentre Awel the first development of its scope and size in Wales, but it is also one of the highest valued schemes the council has ever undertaken. As a company that places social value at the heart of our business, Bouygues UK is excited to be part of a project that is putting such a focus on social value to ensure that both local people and businesses will reap the benefits of the scheme.
Bouygues UK's construction of this project will include integrated care and physical rehabilitation facilities, a well-being skills centre, and a new state-of-the-art leisure centre, along with landscaped outdoor public spaces for walking and cycling.
This transformational project will create around 1,800 jobs over 15 years and boost the local economy by some £467million. Pentre Awel is being delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council in partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board, Universities and Colleges.
In partnership with the council, Bouygues UK has been engaging with local suppliers and trades to highlight the huge range of opportunities to get involved with the construction of Zone One, and will be hosting the first of several ‘meet the buyer’ events at Parc y Scarlets on March 30.
Additionally, the company is liaising with the Regional Learning and Skills Partnership, schools, colleges, universities, and local employment agencies to ensure employment and training opportunities for local people are maximised during the construction phase.
Simon Barnes, Pre-Construction Director for Bouygues UK, said: "We are pleased that Carmarthenshire County Council is aligned with our ambitious vision to bring a positive social impact alongside this project. Together with our supply chain we look forward to bringing lasting value to the local community. By using local employment and social enterprise, we will be supporting Well-being and the Future Generations Act. Through engagement with regional learning and skills partnerships, we will also help deliver learning and career opportunities. This project will also benefit from using a local supply chain with particular focus on small and medium size enterprises."
