Construction News Image
Morgan Sindall has been chosen by Cambridgeshire County Council for its £150 million Design & Build Contractor Framework.

The tier one contractor was awarded a position on three out of the framework's four lots, which is the maximum number a contractor can bid for. Morgan Sindall Construction's community centred strategy was a central aspect of its appointment, which marks the fourth time it has been chosen by the council for Cambridgeshire’s school building scheme.

The projects that will be procured under the new framework will primarily cover design-and-build services for education capital projects and include new-build work, demolitions, refurbishments, renovations and extensions. The three-year framework, which includes an option to extend the arrangement for an additional year, may also include projects for adult social care, offices, community and public buildings.

The lots that Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to are the three largest in terms of value, these are:

• Lot 2, which covers projects ranging from £4m - £8m

• Lot 3, which covers projects ranging from £7.5m – £15.5m

• Lot 4, which covers projects of more than £15m

Over the preceding three iterations of the framework, Morgan Sindall Construction and Cambridgeshire County Council have collaboratively delivered a total of 35 projects. This has included at Wintringham Primary School, Cromwell Community College, Highfield Littleport Academy, Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy, Bottisham Village College and Morley Memorial Primary School.

The construction activity carried out during this 13-year partnership has a combined value of more than £200m and has resulted in approximately 9,000 additional pupil places across the county.

Social value generation has been an important part of the projects that

Jamie Shearman, Morgan Sindall Construction's Cambridge business area director, said: "As a business that’s rooted in Cambridgeshire, we understand the important role that schools play in the county’s local communities. This makes us deeply committed to ensuring that the projects we deliver are tailored to providing as much value as possible for the people living, working and learning in those areas.

"This knowledge and appreciation of the local neighbourhoods - their people, businesses and landscape – is combined with industry leading technologies, techniques and tactics. This includes ‘Decarbonising Communities’, a detailed sustainability strategy that incorporates advanced environmental capabilities such as the CarboniCa carbon calculation tool.

"With our fourth successful appointment to Cambridgeshire County Council's framework, we’re looking forward to continuing our close working relationship with the council. The collaborative and positive nature of this partnership means that on average just over two innovative and cutting-edge educational facilities have been created every year for the past 13 years. As a region that’s experiencing a lot of growth, this has been vital for boosting Cambridgeshire’s educational infrastructure in order to meet the challenges of an increasing population."
