McLaren Construction has been appointed by Camden Council for a major works project at Bray, Burnham, Dorney and Taplow towers on the Chalcots Estate.
With the technical designs, surveys, and specifications already completed for the four tower blocks, the pre-construction phase will start imminently. Work will start on site early 2022 and the new cladding installation will begin in the summer as part of a schedule of works that will see the contractor working on two towers at the same time.
Due to its different structure, a separate two stage ‘design and build’ contract has been awarded to John Graham Construction for the fifth tower block on the estate, Blashford. This will allow for works to start on the building sooner than would have been the case if Blashford was part of the same contract as the other tower blocks.
The resident procurement panel were again a vital part of this procurement process, ensuring residents’ voices were heard throughout and helping to select a contractor that would:
• Provide a proposal that meets design specifications
• Have a strong focus on resident care and minimising disruption
• Put together the right team and subcontractors to deliver the works
• Focus on quality in terms of materials, staff, and site management
• Develop an effective, detailed programme that provides value for money .
Councillor Meric Apak, Cabinet Member for Better Homes, said: "This is a significant step forward and I know that residents will be pleased to see this appointment as they share our determination to see works get underway as soon as possible in line with covid safe measures.
"I would like to thank residents for the vital role they have had in this appointment including the resident procurement panel, who have given up their own time to ensure residents’ voices have been heard throughout this process.
"Our sights are now firmly set on quality and the safe completion and I look forward to a shared resident-focused approach as we move forward with the delivery of this project."
